Hearing the Word of God

From the Devotional "The Secret Place of the Most High...How to Get There" by Rev. Dr. Sheila Walker. All Rights Reserved.

The Word of God comes to us through preaching and teaching. Although we may feel inspired by these messages, some of the deeper meaning of what is being said is not always heard or retained.

When the Word of God goes forth (preached or taught) it is intended to accomplish something in our lives. This changes those words into deeper prophetic words (messages from God which may or may not include predictions), which is why we should be very attentive. This is extremely important so that we receive the knowledge, instructions, and encouragement He wants us to have.

Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and returns not thither, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” American King James Edition

Think of it as God wanting to speak to you personally to help you get through your trying situation.

Numbers 9:8 “Moses answered, ‘Wait here until I have received instructions for you from the LORD.’” New Living Translation

Psalm 85:8 “I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.”

1st Samuel 9:27 “As they were going down at the end of the city, Samuel  said  to  Saul,  Bid  the  servant  pass  on  before us  (and  he  passed on), but stand thou still first, that I may cause thee to hear the word of God.” American Standard Version
