Day 3: Self-indulgence - Dr. S. Walker
00:0000:00

Prayer Focus - Self-indulgence

James 4:3 “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

Going into the presence of God, through prayer is a privilege that we should always take advantage of because our sins are atoned for by Christ’s sacrifice which makes it possible to go before Him.  For this reason, we should not fear approaching our Heavenly Father. We are encouraged to go into His presence with sincere hearts that love and trust Him.

Application:

What do you think are reasons for this prayer error? Explain your choice(s) for awareness and improvement:

  • Not being satisfied

  • Unhappiness

  • Wanting what other people have

  • Embarrassment (appearance, home, car)

  • How others perceive me

  • Other (not listed)

Scripture Study:

Study and then write your interpretation of these Scriptures as it would apply to you and today’s prayer focus.

1st Kings 3:10-12 “It was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice, behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you.” English Standard Version

Reflection: Page 29

Focus on the Solution to this type of prayer problem so that you become more aware of what God really wants for you. And that you become more concerned about the needs of other people rather than yourself. Applying this solution will show you how much better off you are in comparison to others.

Prayer:

Pray that your motives and the intentions behind your prayer request be corrected by the Holy Spirit, pray for a clean heart and pray more today for the people that you know are in need or in a crisis.

Worship: (allow a few minutes to load)
