Prayer Focus - Faith and Peace
Luke 24:36 “While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’”
Looking at the verses leading up to these consoling words, helps us to understand the disciples frame of mind and their level of heightened anxiety. We can relate to their mixed emotions because we all have had episodes of apprehension and nervousness that is combined with our faith. At these times however, we should always remember that “peace” is one of the benefits offered to us by our risen Lord.
Application and Prayer Journal Entry:
Close your eyes and think about any heightened emotions or fears you have concerning a situation in your life or in the life of a loved one. Then refresh your faith in the Resurrection of Christ by reciting Scriptures relating to it. After you’ve done that, repeat what Jesus said to His disciples to yourself putting your name in the place of “you.” For example “Peace be unto (insert your name). Continue saying this until you feel peace and renewed faith; then journal your feelings.
Scripture Study:
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
1st Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.”
Psalm 55:22 “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Reflection: Page 60-61
“Casting cares” is encouraged in Scripture because it gives us peace of mind, settles our souls and strengthens our spirits as we pray and go through a trial. Read these pages and practice the suggestions on how to “cast cares.”
Prayer:
Pray for the Lord’s peace and comfort as you go through the issue that is confronting you at this time. Confirm that you know that He loves you and is with you during this time. Declare the power of His Resurrection and all of the benefits that belong to you as a result of it.
