Prayer Focus - Victory over Temptation

James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

We’ve always thought of this Scripture to literally mean that we should resist the devil and he will flee; this is true. But in actuality, it’s saying to resist our temptation to take matters into our own hands when we are faced with challenges in our lives.

When we resist our own way of thinking and submit ourselves to God, His power and righteousness is what Satan sees that causes Him to flee.

Application:

Answer these Self-evaluation questions:

  • Do you usually take the advice of your close friends when faced with a serious issue? If so, what is the level of their spirituality?

  • How rational (logical, sensible, wise) do you think your thoughts are regarding the issue you are facing in your life at this time? Do those thoughts conform to God’s Word?

Scripture Study and Prayer Journal Entry:

Matthew 4:1-11 “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made (More)

What did Jesus do to gain victory over His temptation? (The answer is in the Scripture and at the bottom this page.) Write a promise to yourself to do the same the next time a situation arises in your life that temps you to respond in your own way.

Reflection: Pages 47 – 48, 60 – 62:

Answer these questions about Satan with one word: Was Jesus in a weakened condition when Satan came to temp Him? Does Satan quote Scripture? Was Satan persistent? Did he raise the challenge every time to a higher level to temp Jesus? Did the Lord promise you victory over your temptation?

Prayer:

Pray asking God to help you recognize this type of temptation, for strength to resist it and the ability to hear His voice loudly and clearly.  Declare your faith in the Holy Spirit’s operation in your life to reveal Satan’s attempt to test you against God’s Word. Renounce any weakness in you that will cause you to fall prey to Satan’s deception. Decree by quoting God’s Word, victory over your life and the temptation of your flesh!

diet tip

PROTEIN (2)

Eating more protein tips:

1) It’s suggested that we eat the high sourced protein (meats, poultry or fish) in our meals before eating the starches.  This will control blood sugar and insulin levels and makes us feel satisfied.

2) Between meal snacks should consist of cheese or nuts for energy and curve cravings.

3) Chopped Almonds add texture to your meal and provides added protein.

4) We get a good amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for a good green salad with plenty of vegetables but limited protein. To add an extra punch to our disease protecting salad, add protein rich food to it to fight feeling hungry afterwards.
